About us
Working together for children in South Africa
Behind the Kinderhilfe Kapstadt Trust is a strong network of people united by one shared goal: to create better opportunities for children in South Africa. What started with a single kindergarten has grown into a network of dedicated supporters, partner organisations, sponsors and friends – in South Africa, Germany and Switzerland.
At the centre of this work are two women whose long-standing commitment and dedication continue to shape the organisation.
Marlis Schaper
Founder of Kinderhilfe-Kapstadt /
Trustee behind The Kinder Hilfe Kapstadt Trust
Since 1999, Marlis Schaper, based in Sylt and spending part of the year in Cape Town, has been deeply committed to supporting disadvantaged children in South Africa. What began as a small kindergarten initiative has grown, through her vision, energy and organisational strength, into a sustainable network focused on education, support and opportunity. She continues to maintain close and trusted relationships with partners and supporters across Europe, connecting people and initiatives across continents.
Elke Zwicker
Projectlead on the ground /
Trustee behind The Kinder Hilfe Kapstadt Trust
Since 2008, Elke Zwicker has been a key part of Kinderhilfe Kapstadt’s work. Based in South Africa, she supports the projects directly on site and ensures that all resources are used responsibly, transparently and effectively.
As a central link between the projects and the Trust, she coordinates funding, manages budgets and donations, communicates with supporters and works closely with local partners and authorities.
Through her commitment and her close connection to the communities, she plays a vital role in shaping the work of Kinderhilfe Kapstadt.
A big thank you to everyone!
The Trust would not be what it is without the many people working behind the scenes. Educators, social workers, kitchen staff, volunteers and donors all contribute to the daily support of around 3,000 children and young people between the ages of 1 and 20.
Every contribution matters – and together, they create something meaningful: a network of support and opportunity for the next generation.
